New Releases 12/6/12:

Movies:

 www.fandango.com

DVD/Blu-ray:

  • Tenchi Muyo OVA (blu) – This is near and dear to me since it is one of the first anime series I ever watched. It’s the classic setup. A high school kid suddenly finds out he’s the focus of attention from an ancient alien pirate, an alien princess, a super scientist, a space cop, oh and he is in the middle of an intergalactic power struggle. Yah know a basic day at the office … in anime land. Adventure and hi jinx ensue.
  • Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: Remastered Edition (blu/dvd) – This 1964 um … classic, has been lovingly restored. You too can now witness the absurdity that has made this a MST3K staple.
  • Mystery Science Theatre 3000: XXV (dvd) – Another installment Forward Unto Dawn (blu/dvd)
  •  The collected mini series that lead up to Halo 4 is now collected. from the depths of this cult classic TV show.
  • Finding Nemo – (blu) – The final Pixar film to come to blu-ray is now finally here. All the things you liked about the DVD release are here with a new round table discussion by the creative team.
  • Batman Blu Ray Trilogy (blu) – The Nolan trilogy in glorious HD, what’s not to like?

Video Games:

Comics:

Marvel:

  • Now! Thor: God of Thunder #2 – Thor’s entire existence is threatened when he becomes the focus of the God Butcher, in a mystery that spans Thor’s past, present and future.
  • Ultimate Comics: Iron Man #2 (of 4) – The Mandarin’s twisted plot continues to unfold, and a secrect has turned War Machine from friend to foe

 DC:

  • Action Comics #15 – Superman is on trail! His jury, the Anti Superman Army. With Grant Morrison at the writing helm ya know it’s gonna be good. Plus it only issue 15, pick up the trade and then it’s just a few back issues to be current!
  • Jack Kirby’s Fourth World Omnibus #4 (TP) – This 4th collected volume of Kirby’s work is wroth looking at, if for no other reason than he has be foundational for most of what we understand to be comics today. The Fourth World stories are also important because it was in these stories that Kirby’s imagination was given much more free reign, which was at times confusing but always interesting.
 Indie:
  • Cyber Force #2 – There’s a conspiracy a foot and the corporation CDI is at the heart of it. Can the Cyber Force push the mega corp into revealing their hand? And remember these first five issues are FREE!
  • Storm Dogs #2 – a forensic autopsy reveals further mysteries and interacting the native aliens is proving challenging. This deep space mystery deepens.
  • Shadowman #2 – One of the stronger titles of the Valiant universe returns (somehow i missed seeing issue 1) and New Orleans is under demonic siege. Can the new Shadow man live through this nightmare night?
Web:

  • Lawrence of Arabia (blu/dvd) – This film is held in wide regard as one of the best photographed films, where the desert environment is as much a part of the film as the actors and story. This newly restored edition is a worthy purchase for anyone who enjoys gorgeous cinematography.

Comics:

Marvel:

  • Dare Devil: End of Days #1 – Story of the death of Dare Devil – not the end of the series just a look a one way that Matt Murdock might go out.
  • The Amazing Spider-Man # 695 – As the title bears down on #700 some old faces return as The Kingpin and Hobgoblin return to make Peter’s life more difficult.

 DC:

  • Fairest #8 – This spin off of the Fables line focuses more on the “Princess” tales. This issue begins Repunzel’s story, making it an excellent point to jump in. Story by Lauren Beukes and Art by Inaki Miranda
  • I Vampire vol.1: Tainted Love – First collection of the acclaimed horror series
 Indie:
  • Doctor Who #1 – The ongoing comic launches
  • Fashion Beast #2 – A new spin on the Beauty and the Beast story, written by Alan Moore & Malcome McLaren with fantastic art by Facundo Percio
  • Lone Ranger #10 – With the film’s teaser trailer out it might be good to bone up on the story of this masked hero
  • Pathfinder #2 – Set in the universe of the table top RPG of the same name, a high fantasy adventure
Web:
  • Spinnerette – A fun take on the super hero genre, the title character is a biology student who was shot with a ray that combined her DNA with a spider. While the origin isn’t “new” the characters are pretty well written and the story is fun. It should be noted that it can be a little “fan service”-y.  http://www.spinnyverse.com/
