Movies:

  • New Releases

  • DVD/Blu-ray

    • The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog Vol. 1 – DVD
    • Beyond – DVD/Blu – I part police poceedure drama one part supernatural thriller, as a nearly retired detective tries to find a kidnapped girl, with the unexpected help of a local physic.
    • Castle in the Sky AKA Laputa: Castle in the Sky – DVD/Blu – When Sheeta inherits a magical crystal that links her to the mythical kingdom of Laputa, she and her friend Pazu are thrown into a whillwind adventture of science, mysticism and Sky Pirates! This is Hayao Miyazaki’s third film, and a new Disney dub.
    • Denver & Rio Grande (DVD/Blu) – Jim Vesser, a former U.S. Cavalry Officer, now in charge of getting the Denver and Rio Grande tracks across the Rockies first to secure a right-of-way. Standing in his way is the less scrupulous and more ruthless McCabe who’s trying to lay his Canyon City and San Juan tracks first. The conflict between the two men turns into guerrilla warfare between the two outfits.
    • Gamera: the Brave – Blu – Gamera The Brave contrasts the strained relationship between a father and his son with the strong bond of a boy and a young monster growing up together. The film is set in the world in which we live, with one glaring exception – it is also a world inhabited by giant monsters!
    • The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy – Extended Edtion – Blu – Containing 15 disks with a total running time of 682 min. Includeds tons of bonus material. The summary on amazon.com was too long to put here.
    • Mutant Girls Squad – DVD/Blu – Rin’s latent mutant abilities awaken when her family is brutally murdered on her 16th birthday. She joins up with a secret group of other mutants who seek to over throw the oppressive “normal” population and make Japan a haven for mutants. I think Magneto would be pleased … although the gore spectacle is more up Mojo’s alley.
    • Red Tails – DVD/Blu – The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen as they fight for the Allied Forces and against the discrimination they face on their home soil.
    • Sherlock S2 – Blu/DVD – A brilliant re-imagining of the Sherlock Holmes characters. If you want to catch up, you can find S1 on Netflix Instant Streaming.
    • The Grey – Blu/DVD – Ottway leads a group of plane crash survivors through the Alaskan wilderness, while they are relentlessly tracked by a pack of wolves. Sounds a bit like The Edge.
    • The Secret World of Arrietty – Blu/DVD – Studio Ghibli once again delivers a heartwarming tale of friendship and courage. In a secret world hidden beneath the floorboards, little people called Borrowers live quietly among us. But when tenacious and tiny Arrietty is discovered by Shawn, a human boy, their secret and forbidden friendship blossoms into an extraordinary adventure.
    • The Woman in Black – Blu/DVD – A young lawyer travels to a remote village to organize a recently deceased client’s papers, where he discovers the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance. Daniel Radcliffe’s first major movie since Harry Potter.
    • Whisper of the Heart – Blu/DVD – Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki classic. A chance encounter with a mysterious cat sends Shizuku, a quiet schoolgirl, on a quest for her true talent. Challenged by Seiji, a boy determined to follow his dreams, and enchanted by the Baron, a magical cat figurine who helps her listen to the whispers of her heart, Shizuku embarks on curious adventures beyond the boundaries of her imagination.

Video Games:

Comics:

  • Marvel:

    • Astonishing X-Men #50 – Supposedly something relating to a wedding is gonna drop in the X-verse. Hopefully it will work out better for this couple than it did for Scott and Jean.
    • Journey into Mystery #638 – One of the longer running Marvel titles, and with my growing fandom of Thor and Loki I’m going to go with this title.
  • DC:

    • Batman Inc. #1 – first in the New 52 Written by Grant Morrison and Drawn by Chris Burnham
    • Justice League Dark #9 – Written by Jeff Lemire and Drawn by Mikel Janin
  • Indie:

    • Resident Alien #1 – Dark Horse – An alien is stuck on earth, and tries to integrate using mind control while waiting for rescue. Written by Peter Hogan and Drawn by Steve Parkhouse.
  • Web:

    • Starslip – http://starslip.com/ – A complex and endearing sci-fi story about a museum curator and his warship. Also one of the most elegant soft reboots I’ve ever seen. It is written and drawn by Kris Straub and releases M-W-F.
