Episode 50!  Listen live on Thursdays  from 7pm to 9pm on 103.3 FM KSCU Santa Clara, or online at http://www.kscu.org/

New Releases 1/17/13:

Movies:

 www.fandango.com

DVD/Blu-ray:

Video Games:

Comics:

Marvel:

  • Dark Tower: Gunslinger – Little Sisters of Eluria – This trade paperback collects this tale of The Gunslinger, almost always a solid choice
  • DareDevil #22 – Because Mark Waid is “The Man” and is turning out awesome stories! In this issue DD teams up with the new Suprior Spiderman as they fight Doc Oct and … Stilts Man? Really? Stilts. man. I’m sure Mr. Waid can pull this out

 DC:

  • Team 7 #4 – Team 7 takes on Eclipso and Slade, plus mysteries of Deathstroke’s past revealed! Also unintentional double pick for Slade this week
  • Deathstroke #16 – Looks like Slade’s about to have a show down with his son
 Indie:
  • The Crow: Skinning the Wolves #2 – Apparently the Crow isn’t just hard to kill in the story. This time the soul is returned to apparently wreak revenge on some Nazis. Not a bad way to go, it’s always worked for Indiana Jones.
  • Saga #9 – It’s the latest issue of Saga … how is it not in your pull list already?
Web:
  • The Trenches – This comic is the combined efforts of the guys from Penny Arcade and Scott Kurtz of PVPonline. It’s also brilliant … which I guess isn’t really a surprise. The story follows a group of game testers and the weird wild world that major game testing is.

Robots Attack 048

Episode 48!  Listen live on Thursdays  from 7pm to 9pm on 103.3 FM KSCU Santa Clara, or online at http://www.kscu.org/

New Releases 12/13/12:

Movies:

 www.fandango.com

DVD/Blu-ray:

  • Bourne Legacy (blu/dvd) – In the wake of the actions of Jason Bourne, the Intelligence agencies are trying to keep their secrets dark. Aaron Cross is the focus of their actions in this follow up to the popular Bourne series.
  • Ted (blu/dvd) – Raunchy comedy featuring a teddy bear as the main character.
  • Ice Age: Continental Drift (blu/dvd) – Another installment of the very popular movie series. This time our heroes are stuck on an iceberg and a crew of pirates is blocking their way home.
  • Collision Earth (blu/dvd) – A massive comet strikes the sun and sets Mercury on a course for earth! A SyFy original from the director of Ice Quake, Polar Storm, and Stonehenge Apocalypse
  • Bikini Bloodbath Shakespeare (dvd) – The title I believe is sufficient explanation why you would or would not want to pickup this dvd

Video Games:

Comics:

Marvel:

  • Avengers Arena #1: Murder World – Another title in the new Marvel Now! universe is unveiled, and it give us an interesting spin on the Battle Royale idea. Even the cover seems to be an homage to the movie
  • Wolverine #317 – To save the Dream Maiden Wolverine must face his nightmares, which considering his long and rather violent life should be abundant

 DC:

  • Deamon Knights #15 – Big things are happening, and a connection to Stormwatch?! Mystery awaits!
  • Ravagers #7 – While it doesn’t seem to be burning up the charts, Ravagers has reached issue 7 so that’s something. Might be worth checking out.
 Indie:
  • Courtney Crumrin #8 – Looks like an interesting modern magic story, and the art looks like an interesting style
  • The Hollows #1 of 4 – A near future in which segments of the population live above it all but the rabble below are becoming more restless. Sam Keith is the artist and co-creator of this series.
  • Borderlands #2 of 4 – Go back in history and find out how and what got Lilith on to the bus that started her epic adventure.
Web:
  • Plume – by Kari Smith – I found this one from Nate Pikos’ Blambot Font newsletter. It has a very interesting visual style and I’m looking forward to how the story plays out. One small thing I really like is that when the character has dialog they are drawn with an open mouth. Far too many comic artists skip this slight but important detail.

Episode 47!  Listen live on Thursdays  from 7pm to 9pm on 103.3 FM KSCU Santa Clara, or online at http://www.kscu.org/

New Releases 12/6/12:

Movies:

 www.fandango.com

DVD/Blu-ray:

  • Tenchi Muyo OVA (blu) – This is near and dear to me since it is one of the first anime series I ever watched. It’s the classic setup. A high school kid suddenly finds out he’s the focus of attention from an ancient alien pirate, an alien princess, a super scientist, a space cop, oh and he is in the middle of an intergalactic power struggle. Yah know a basic day at the office … in anime land. Adventure and hi jinx ensue.
  • Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: Remastered Edition (blu/dvd) – This 1964 um … classic, has been lovingly restored. You too can now witness the absurdity that has made this a MST3K staple.
  • Mystery Science Theatre 3000: XXV (dvd) – Another installment Forward Unto Dawn (blu/dvd)
  •  The collected mini series that lead up to Halo 4 is now collected. from the depths of this cult classic TV show.
  • Finding Nemo – (blu) – The final Pixar film to come to blu-ray is now finally here. All the things you liked about the DVD release are here with a new round table discussion by the creative team.
  • Batman Blu Ray Trilogy (blu) – The Nolan trilogy in glorious HD, what’s not to like?

Video Games:

Comics:

Marvel:

  • Now! Thor: God of Thunder #2 – Thor’s entire existence is threatened when he becomes the focus of the God Butcher, in a mystery that spans Thor’s past, present and future.
  • Ultimate Comics: Iron Man #2 (of 4) – The Mandarin’s twisted plot continues to unfold, and a secrect has turned War Machine from friend to foe

 DC:

  • Action Comics #15 – Superman is on trail! His jury, the Anti Superman Army. With Grant Morrison at the writing helm ya know it’s gonna be good. Plus it only issue 15, pick up the trade and then it’s just a few back issues to be current!
  • Jack Kirby’s Fourth World Omnibus #4 (TP) – This 4th collected volume of Kirby’s work is wroth looking at, if for no other reason than he has be foundational for most of what we understand to be comics today. The Fourth World stories are also important because it was in these stories that Kirby’s imagination was given much more free reign, which was at times confusing but always interesting.
 Indie:
  • Cyber Force #2 – There’s a conspiracy a foot and the corporation CDI is at the heart of it. Can the Cyber Force push the mega corp into revealing their hand? And remember these first five issues are FREE!
  • Storm Dogs #2 – a forensic autopsy reveals further mysteries and interacting the native aliens is proving challenging. This deep space mystery deepens.
  • Shadowman #2 – One of the stronger titles of the Valiant universe returns (somehow i missed seeing issue 1) and New Orleans is under demonic siege. Can the new Shadow man live through this nightmare night?
Web:
  • Saint for Rent, is about a guy who owns an in for time travelers. It’s very new and rather interesting. I like that many of the pages have an animated segment of them. http://saint-for-rent.smackjeeves.com/
